Gabriel and I started school together last Thursday, August 26. He enjoyed school after he got over the fact that I was dropping him off and leaving him. I’m sure his teacher, Ms. Stephanie, was thinking I’m totally nuts. I put a nametag on his back that had a couple of his “code” words on it. Specifically… bunga = milk/drink and wunga = water. I just thought that might be a good starting point for her. Most everything else he says is distinguishable, but for some reason he’s holding on to those words.
My class (two year olds) was really good. I had 5 girls and 3 boys. A couple of the girls have never been to “school” before and struggled a bit with the structure of it, but I think they’ll get the hang of it. The second day was already better. My Teacher’s Aide is Eve, and she’s great. She doesn’t even think I’m crazy for wanting to try and be organized. Isn’t that wonderful?
Well, we’ve gotten a week under our belt. It’s been a good week. School started on August 23. We missed the bus on the first day, but it really wasn’t our fault. The schedule said our pick up time was 7:10 –7:25. We were outside taking pictures at 7:01. According to the bus driver she drove by three times, the last one at 7:00. I don’t know how we missed the bus, but it was frustrating. So we drove Noah to school that morning and all was well. We haven’t missed it since. He got green smiley faces on his daily conduct report each day. He loves kindergarten. He doesn’t even seem to mind getting up at 6:30 (I do).
On Friday night he wore his new Fighting Panther Club t-shirt to the football game. He got to run from end zone to end zone during pre-game with the other kids. He was so excited. And our team won… Go Panthers!!!
Gabriel used the potty for the first time tonight. Yay!!! No pictures. I just wanted to share the exciting news.
We met Noah’s Kindergarten teacher tonight. Her name is Miss Thompson and she seemed very nice. She was a Red Raider and this is her second year teaching. Noah is very excited to be going to school, but he’s a little worried that he can only read little words. I keep telling him that’s what kindergarten is for, but I guess he’ll figure that out. He was a little concerned that there weren’t as many toys in kindergarten as there were at his last school. I’m pretty sure that more than anything, Noah is looking forward to riding the bus to school. He’s already got the bus rules memorized, and he told me today that those rules were the most important thing to know about going to kindergarten. There were cars parked in the bus lane at school tonight, and he immediately commented that they should not be there.
I can’t believe I have a child in kindergarten. Man, I’m getting old…
Well, Granny Pearl had another birthday in July. We made it up to Lawton to visit for the weekend. She was in (mostly) good spirits. We took Whitney with us to visit one day. That was a fun trip with the three boys. I love the looks on everyone’s faces in the group picture. It is a very good representation of that day.
Gabriel enjoyed the car ride with the big boys.
I’m not sure what was going on in the back seat, but I’m sure Noah was teaching Whitney something VERY important.
Noah says, “Daddy, will you work us some more money so we can go to Beaches?”
